Locked Out

This post won't be long. Mostly because it is late, and I just spent most of the time I had to blog locked outside my house. Which brings me to the first thing I want to talk about, which is. Who thought it was a good idea to make a door that locks, but still allows you to go out of it like as if it were unlocked. It just seems like it would dawn on this knob manufacturer that this was setting people up for disaster. I go out before bed to take some trash to the dumpster. Everything seems to be going as planned. I am dressed for bed so I obviously don't have my cell phone or keys on me. I realize, as I attempt my re-entry that I have been duped.

I spend a few moments cursing under my breath and wondering what it is that I should do. I go over all the options in my head.

"maybe someone will get up for water. Or possibly someone will come outside for some reason. Possibly someone heard my exit and is wondering what has delayed my anticipated re-entry."

I hope and pray that one of these scenarios will play out, but to my dismay none do. I see that my room mate Dave's light is on. I get a small feeling of hope that rises up inside me saying; "You are soon to be free of your front porch prison, sleep is on its way. Don't worry Cortland you will be in bed before you know it; Dave will save you."

"Dave..." I mutter in a soft tone; careful not to wake any of the many people sleeping in the adjoining bedrooms. "DAVE," I say a little louder wondering how he cannot hear me. "His window is cracked," He should be able to hear me.

I walk around the house a few more times pacing and yelling at myself for getting me into this predicament in the first place. It's been twenty minutes, and by this point I am more determined then ever to get inside. I stand in the front yard and plan my entry strategy. there are some small ledges that I can reach by climbing on the porch banister.
"This is my best bet. I'll climb from rail to ledge to the awning above the porch and bellow Dave's window."
I decide to go for it and I am victorious.

The plan didn't end up exactly how I planned however because it turns out Dave had fallen asleep with his light on and I ended up having to wake him. So my idealistic idea of getting back in with out waking someone did not work out.

But I did do my best.
